Environmental work

Our company is sprung from the idea that almost everything can be repaired and reused. For the Hellsten family recycling is more than just a word; it is a lifestyle that has permeated the entire company's way of working since 1983. Every day we work innovatively and responsibly, through recycling, resource management and producer responsibility, towards a better environment and sustainable development.

When we sell a unit, refurbished or used, we request the broken unit (core) in return. Through an exchange system, the broken core is incorporated into our constantly ongoing cycle of recycling. The broken core is thoroughly refurbished and placed on the warehouse shelf. When sold it gets replaced with another broken core and the cycle starts over. This is known as the exchange system, our recycling philosophy.

Through our exchange system, broken gearboxes, transfer units, differentials and turbos (thrown away by so many) are incorporated into an ongoing cycle or recycling. In a world where resources are scarce, recycling is the only option. The automotive industry is a contributing factor to the negative effect of our common climate, which is why we in the automotive industry must work harder, smarter and more solution-oriented to justify our very existence. Every refurbished or used part that we sells is in fact a contribution to the environment.

A study from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg (2017) shows that the refurbishment of a single gearbox reduces GWP* by 36% compared to GWP for the manufacture of a new gearbox! In a single year, we sell many refurbished and used gearboxes. Each of these part leaves behind a much lighter carbon footprint and therefore becomes our own contribution to the environment. We make a difference, every day through this never ending sustainable cycle of recycling. Therefore it is crucial for us to utilize our expertise to recycle as many parts as possible.

* GWP (the global warming potential): a measure of the ability of a greenhouse gas to contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming.

Throughout the refurbish chain, we work closely with our suppliers and subcontractors to facilitate recycling. Our strategies include increased use of recyclable materials and phasing out hazardous chemicals. We use resource-efficient channels to get the parts to market. Our environmental strategy also includes using environmentally adapted logistics solutions and environmentally certified modes of transport and thus reducing our ecological footprint.

Being able to offer renovated and used gearboxes, transfer unites and differentials, with top warranty and quality support, becomes a safe and future-proof business that benefits both the environment and the customer.
A sustainable development for real!
